Tribute Bands vs Cover bands.

As some of you know, I host a two (2) hour radio show from 2:00pm to 4:00pm pst weekdays on or in which I play bands that are called “Tribute” bands who pay tribute to there collective favorite bands or acts. Tribute bands do not like to be referred to as cover bands, they feel very passionate about the bands and particularly the songs and or album/era they are representing. Most tribute bands even go as far as trying to look, act and sound exactly like those they are mimicking.

Cover bands on the other hand are bands that learn several different songs from a plethora of artists and eras know as classic rock, they find they can work clubs and private parties regularly and often enough to make a substantial income. Cover band usually don’t refer to themselves as tribute bands so they can be more flexible when being hired. There is a small contingent of bands who consider themselves Tribute Cover bands, these bands are armed with so many songs and have played them so long and so well they are consider the elite among both tribute and cover bands. Most band members from these bands are known by others and are considered the best players to pick up a jam session with..
